DCL cheerdance kicks off Oct. 24

A TOTAL 15 teams will vie for the title of the Davao Champions League (DCL) Cheerdance Competition set on Oct. 24 at the Abreeza Mall Activity Center.

Tournament director Goldie Delvo bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association Forum at Dexter's Pizza Stadium in Matina Thursday.

She said, "All teams that joined the basketball tournament will be represented in the cheerdance contest. We will hold a meeting on Wednesday for the guidelines, rules and regulations. Other schools have just formed their cheerdance teams and we are happy that we can start a regular cheerdance competition among collegiate teams."

Expected to see action are Jose Maria College, Mats College of Technology, Holy Cross of Davao College, Davao Central College, University of Mindanao (UM), AMA Computer College, University of the Immaculate Conception, DMMA College of Southern Philippines, San Pedro College (SPC), Agro-Industrial Foundation of the Philippines (Agro), Ateneo de Davao University, Rizal Memorial Colleges, STI College, and John Paul II College of Davao.

She said a total cash prize of P30,000 will be awarded to the first three placers.

DCL president Mateo Cubero, meanwhile, said games were set to resume as of Thursday’s press time.

Today's matches pit SPC Blue Stallions against UM Wildcats at 5 p.m. and Agro Sailors against STI Olympians at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday games will be held at the Rizal Memorial Colleges.

Cubero said, "All elimination games will be finished by Sunday. The top two teams in each bracket will again play another single elimination to determine the first four teams that will play in the semis."

Semis winners will then clash for the title while the losers will battle for third in the cage fest presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas in Davao Region. (MLSA)
