Mats nips DNSC, 82-81

THE Mats College of Technology Navigators grabbed its second win after four outings by nipping Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) Sharks, 82-81, in the resumption of the Davao Champions League Thursday night at John Paul II College of Davao Gym.

Mats was trailing, 36-43, at the break but rallied in the final period, outscoring the visitors, 30-22, behind Ernie Collados who drilled in seven points of his total 19. His teammate Nether Villaron buried eight points in the fourth including two three pointers. Villaron finished with 10.

DNSC's Chris Guadalquiver canned 15 for his team that dropped to 1-1 while the Navigators improved to a 2-2 win-loss card in bracket A.

In the other game, the AMA Computer College Titans, toppled the San Pedro College (SPC) Blue Stallions, 72-67, to post its second win after three games in bracket B. SPC slumped to 0-2.

Jimmy Apat drilled in 20 baskets as Elmer Lumbunao added 13 for AMA Titans while Christopher Jay Gavia and Maverick Gabriel made 21 and 18 points, respectively, for the Blue Stallions.

Two games were set to be played as of Friday at JPIICD Gym, SPC against the University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats and Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors against the STI Olympians.

Over at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym on Saturday, the 8:30 a.m. curtain raiser pits DMMA College of Southern Philippines against AMA followed by the match between the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) Eagles and UM Wildcats at 10 a.m.

The rest of the games: DNSC vs Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders at 1 p.m., Jose Maria College (JMC) against Davao Central College at 2:30 p.m., and Ateneo de Davao University against RMC Bulldogs at 4 p.m.

The cagefest is presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas-Davao.
