Ex-cop nabbed in drug buy-bust

A FORMER policeman was arrested in a buy-bust operation inside a hotel on Mc Arthur Highway in Matina, Davao City, Saturday afternoon.

Superintendent Julius Silagan, chief of Talomo police, identified the former cop as Ray Ali Macabuat, alias Roy, 52, formerly assigned in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) but hails from Balindong in Lanao del Sur and is a resident of Royal Valley, Bangkal in Davao.

Personnel of the Talomo police launched the operation around 5 p.m. inside the hotel after the police confirmed the reports from a concerned citizen.

Silagan, in an interview, said that Macabuat was arrested after he handed a sachet of suspected shabu to a police officer who acted as a buyer.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession were three medium sachets of suspected shabu worth P3,000.

Aside from suspected shabu, police also recovered from Macabuat assorted drug paraphernalia, one cellular phone, and P13,660 cash.

"We've been monitoring him (the suspect) at least once month since we received the report on his activities here in the city. He bought those suspected illegal drugs from his sources in Cotabato then sold it here," Silagan said.

He said charges for violation of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Macabuat today, Monday.

The suspect is now temporarily detained at the Talomo police station. (ICT)
