1 dead, 2 missing in capsized boat

ONE person was declared dead while two others remained missing when a motorized boat carrying 13 passengers capsized in Sitio Lubbong Binuan, Barangay Poblacion, Kabugao, Apayao during the onslaught of Typhoon Santi.

Apayao Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Geoffrey Borromeo identified the casualty as 15-year-old Heidi Bunay whose body was recovered around 6 a.m. on October 14 in Barangay Centro, Abulug, Cagayan.

Bunay was brought to St. Thomas Aquinas Funeral Homes in Barangay Libertad, Abulug, Cagayan and was transported to their town Tuesday.

Borromeo said they are still conducting search operations for two other missing passengers of the capsized boat identified as Crispin Talosig and Noralyn Talosig whom relatives believed to have drowned as strong currents from the Apayao River swept them away during the typhoon.

Nine passengers, meanwhile, were immediately rescued after the motorized boat capsized.

The survivors told the PDRRMC officer they went to the capital town to file the Certificate of Candidacy of one of their companions who will be contending in the forthcoming barangay elections.

Municpal DRRMC of Kabugao and Pudtol are still conducting search and rescue operations as of press time Tuesday noon.
