3 Capitol buildings demolished

THE demolition of three Capitol buildings had been completed on properties to be leased by Ayala Land, Inc.

The Negros Occidental government salvaged GI sheets, jalousies, and steel bars from the two buildings, General Services Office officer Lucille Pines said.

She said the Commission on Audit will decide on how much is the total cost of the "salvaged materials."

She said they had submitted a report to the Commission on Audit (COA) last week, and "we need some of the salvaged materials for the construction of shed houses and bodegas, but we cannot dispose it yet if COA will not allow us.”

Part of the materials were used as filling materials for the vacant property also owned by the province in front of the Philippine Veterans Bank along Gatuslao Street, she added.

Pines said some people are trying to recover materials from the demolition site.

"What is left on the site is considered scrap already," she said.

After the COA makes its evaluation, we will submit it to Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr., who will decide how to dispose it which is either through auction or distributed to the different departments who may need it for their projects, Pines said.
