Bacolod, Daegu, Korea forge sisterhood pact

BACOLOD City and Seogu District, Daegu Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea are now sister cities following the signing of the sisterhood agreement between Mayor Monico Puentevella and Mayor Kang Seong-ho at the

Government Center lobby Thursday.

Mayor Kang brought with him several Korean businessmen and others to see for themselves the potential of Bacolod in the aspect of tourism, trade and educational exchanges and also investments that they may intend to engage.

Puentevella said that this is a great move to enter a sisterhood pact with this Korean city. He is optimistic that these ties will go a long way in terms of culture, business, tourism, and education.

He said he plans to hold a Korean festival next year, as many Koreans are here in the city to study the English language.

There might be possibility that Bacolod businessmen, officials and some students will visit Korea next year to also learn from their culture, history and business. They will work on the educational and economic exchanges, he said.

By January and February next year, Bacolod is expecting the arrival of 1,500 Koreans in Bacolod taking a direct flight frok Korea to Bacolod-Silay Airport.

These Koreans will come here to play golf and also visit the famous Mambukal Resort.

"Tourism is indeed a big factor in these ties," he said.

Daegu is the fourth largest city in Korea and has a population of more or less 2.5 million.
