Negros to donate P2 million to Bohol

GOVERNOR Alfredo Maranon Jr. confirmed that the Negros Occidental government is giving P2 million in donation to the quake-stricken province of Bohol.

He made the announcement after meeting with Vice Governor Rugenio Jose Lacson and Board Member Salvador Escalante, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Finance Committee.

Maranon also appealed to the private sector to donate for the victims of the earthquake in cash or in kind.

He said they decided to donate to Bohol because of the heavy extent of damage of the earthquake there.

Cebu is much progressive and the damage was heavy in Bohol, Maranon pointed out.

The SP is expected to approve the donation for Bohol during their regular session today.

Meanwhile, Maranon believes that the church through the Vatican and the Catholic faithful should contribute and do their share for the restoration of the original shape and structural designs of the centuries-old churches that were damaged by the earthquake in Bohol.

Several centuries-old churches that are tourism attractions in Bohol were damaged, and that, the National Historical Commission has already pledged to restore the said churches.

The statues of saints in the said churches are still intact, so the churches' shapes and structural designs must also be restored, Maranon said.
