Bohol quake death toll rises to 215

MANILA (Updated) -- The number of fatalities from the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Bohol and affected its nearby provinces last October 15 has climbed to 215, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Sunday.

In its 6 p.m. Sunday update, the NDRRMC said that of the 215 fatalities, 201 were from Bohol, 13 from Cebu, and one from Siquijor.

Eight people are still missing and the number of injured people also remained at 760.

The council said 664,389 families were affected, 19,310 of which are staying in 303 evacuation centers.

The total amount of damage to properties was estimated at P2,203 billion, including P1,383 billion in Bohol, P817.951 million in Cebu, P1.450 million in Siquijor, and P270,000 in Negros Oriental.


As of 6 p.m. Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded 2,874 aftershocks, 77 of which were felt. (NMP/Sunnex)
