Road to success is lens, passion

PROFESSIONALIZING more its service is the goal of Karlo Tomas Photography Inc., as it marks its 8th year in the industry this year.

Last July 27 this year, the studio owned by Karlo Tomas, son of a respected photographer here, is overjoyed to reach this far, considering himself as lucky on his venture, despite the trials he then surpassed.

For someone who has no idea in running a business like Karlo, it was a big challenge to fulfill his task and give the quality service that his clients deserve.

For this man, eight years was a year of sacrifices and struggles, but all these taught him lessons in more ways than one that successfully etched his name in photography.

He admits that at first he was not able to get the support of his father on this, but it challenges him to rather go extra mile.

"Dihang nakadecide nako to put up my own studio nananghid ko ni Papa, imbes suportahan ko niya, nasuko siya. Gipasagdan lang ko niya, mao nga ako gi-prove nako niya. Nasabtan nako siya, and I consider iyang reaction as a challenge for me," Karlo said.

He started from nothing, until such time he was able to mount a small studio where he does his works.

It was a blessing in disguise as well that failing to get his father's nod had pushed him to pursue where his passion is.

Time came when he also finally decided to break away from the shadow of his father.

"Nailhan na akong papa, so if he is busy ako ang gina-tap. Till nag-solo nako, dili sayon magsugod sa wala, pero na-challenge ko."

For now, from the usual wedding coverage, the Karlo Tomas Photography has made it to a point to expand more their service and reach out to a much bigger market.

"Ang wedding kasi is given na. So kung wala mi shoot diha sa dalan, naa gihapon ang nagasulod. So I decided na mobalik sa corporate, like schools, establishments. Nag-established ta og more connections and clientele."

In a profession like his, when he gets to meet people, it also follows that dealing with some vexatious is inevitable, at least in his job.

In one instance, a wedding coordinator has placed him in a bad light. Although he never said much of it, this has never dampened his will to go on, seek justice and prove that the allegations were all wrong.

"Wala ko kabalo nga ginadaut na diay ko. Naa koy client sa wedding nga nangutana nako if I know badaw unsa ang mga istorya sa gawas, nga kesyo ingon ani among trabaho. Pero wala ko magkadaug, gipakita nako nila nga dili tinuod ang mga allegations nila and mas nalabwan pa namo ang expectations nila gikan sa among trabaho," Karlo shares.

As of now, the case he filed against the wedding coordinator is still being heard at the court.

Being in the industry for almost a decade now, Karlo's photography studio introduces new approach in taking pictures, like using minimal lights and editing.

"Ayoko ma-disappoint ang clients namo. Kaya I always remind my team nga ihatag ang satisfaction sa atong clients bisan og hagu na. Dili mi anang too much nga editing nga halos dili na ikaw ang naa sa picture."

According to Karlo, no matter how simple the occasion is, with the minimal lights and colors available, still the beauty of the picture will standout using the right composition.

To further improve his skills, Karlo is consistently in joining seminars abroad that discuss the latest in photography.

"Everyday man gud we should learn unsa tong mga latest. Tungod may competition dapat kabalo ta unsaon sa pag-compete."

For this guy, dedication on his work is the key, to completely share the wonderful pictures captured by his lens.

"Fulfillment on my part nga ma-meet ang gipangayo sa akong clients. Na sila mismo wala makatuo na ingon ana ang resulta sa ilang pictures."
