THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Davao City said Friday that the teachers, who served as Board of Election Tellers (BETs) during the barangay elections, can now claim their honoraria.
The Department of Education (Deped) in the city recently submitted the payroll which included the list of the teachers who assisted in conducting the October 28 barangay polls.
The honoraria for the 3,585 BETs, who were assigned in 1,195 polling precincts in the first district, are now available as well as for the special BETs (SBETs), who conducted voting for the detainees at the Davao City Jail.
First district election officer lawyer Aimee Ampoloquio, in an interview over local television news program on Friday, said the honoraria may be claimed at Magsaysay Park.
The Comelec national office set aside a total of P7,170,000 for the BETs and P24,000 for the SBETs in the first district.
Second district election officer lawyer Danilo Cullo also said the poll tellers who facilitated the elections in the 891 polling precincts in the district may also collect their allowance at their office. The second district allocated P5,366,000 for the 2,673 teachers who manned the polling places.
Election officer for the third district ,lawyer Monalisa Mamukid, called on the 2,385 BETs in her district to also collect their allowance.
She also said they have forwarded some of teachers' allowance to DepEd district supervisors in the far flung barangays in the district to spare some BETs from travelling to their office.
"Dili na nato palisodan ang atong mga BETs sa mga far-flung na mga barangays. So amoa nang gihatag sa mga district supervisors para didto na nila i-claim and dili na sila mubiyahe pa diri, (We will not make it hard for our BETs from the far flung barangays. So we already gave the allowance to the district supervisors so that they will it claim it there and they don't have to travel here.)" Mamukid said.
The budget allocation for the allowance of BETs and SBETs is in accordance to the Comelec Resolution No. 9751 which states that BETs will be receiving P2,000 each plus P500 transportation allowance to be provided by the local government units (LGUs). It also mandates Comelec to provide a total of P3,000 honoraria for SBETs.
