Financial literacy now a trend: exec

A GROWING trend is seen among large employers and the young generation when it comes to personal finance management, an executive said.

Personal Finance Advisers Philippines chief executive officer and chair Efren Ll. Cruz said that most of the younger generation, aged 25 to 40, are now starting to learn financial management as they see the increasing need for it.

"We also see a trend among employers wherein they send and support their employees to our seminars to be taught on financial planning and management," he told reporters in an interview after the Enrich training program presented by NCCC Cares at NCCC Mall on Saturday.

Cruz said some of these companies are doing this as part of their corporate social responsibility, while some do it as part of their organizational development.

"They are willing to pay to train their employees in managing their personal finances. They see it as part of helping the development of the person and as helping in their employee's productivity," He added.

The executive officer said two out of the three largest banks in the country are sending their employees to join the seminars. Hospitals and large utility companies are also sending in employees to the program.

He also urged young people to begin financial planning as early as possible. For those who are earning, he encouraged them to start investing.
