Grenade blast injures 3

THREE people, including a child, were wounded in a grenade explosion that marred the fiesta celebration of a remote village in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Saturday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Ariel Huesca said the incident happened around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday in New Village, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur.

Huesca said the victims are Merlyn Lara, 47, of Lower Usogan village; Ivy Jean Batoy, 8, of Lakarayan, Tigbao town; and a certain Mario of Happy Valley.

The victims were admitted at the hospital for treatment, Huesca added.

Investigation showed the victims were at a disco party as the New Village is celebrating its fiesta when a grenade was tossed into the crowd of people coming from the back stage, Huesca said.

He said the suspect, who remained unidentified, fled amid the commotion brought about by the grenade explosion.

Investigation continues to identify the suspect.
