Cebu yoga studio operators asked to join health council

OPERATORS of yoga studios and meditation centers are encouraged to join the health and wellness group in Cebu to be included in promotional programs for international selling missions and sales calls.

Department of Trade and Industry-Cebu Provincial Office (DTI-CPO) Director Nelia Navarro said they are inviting more yoga studio operators to join the Cebu Health and Wellness Council (CHWC) so Cebu will have a strong footing in terms of marketing itself as a total health and wellness hub in the country.

“We want yoga studios and meditation centers to get involved in the CHWC because what they are offering is another set of services that we can promote or offer to local and foreign tourists,” said Navarro.

She said that despite the recent calamities experienced by the region, the council remains on track to hit its goals.

She said the proliferation of yoga studios in Cebu shows increasing health and wellness awareness among local residents. Although the industry does not have official data yet, the market is growing as can be seen by the growing number of yoga studios opening around the city.

“Many people are interested in trying yoga and are willing to spend on yoga classes and products, including clothing and equipment among others,” said Navarro.

She said the trend is evident among business process outsourcing (BPO) employees who are motivated to enroll because yoga promotes flexibility, general conditioning, stress relief and improves health and physical fitness.
