P74.1M to finance disaster management projects

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said Thursday that the local disaster risk reduction management fund worth P74.1 million will cover the activities of the city’s disaster risk management council for 2014.

Mabilog said the fund will cover the quick response and relief operations, disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation, and recovery and rehabilitation for the whole year.

One of the projects to be funded is a three-storey building of the disaster risk management council amounting to P12 million that will be built behind the Iloilo Freedom grandstand.

The building will have the following: a six-vehicle garage (ground floor); offices for the disaster risk management council command center, Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO), city’s emergency response, and storage for equipment (second floor); closed circuit television (CCTV) room, radio communications, and conference hall (third floor). The roof deck will be used for other meetings.

Mabilog said the city engineer’s office will start the construction from January to December 2014.

The quick response fund worth P22.23 million will cover damage assessment, relief operations, search, rescue and retrieval operations, health, evacuation center, early recovery mechanism, evacuation management and food assistance, and assistance to other LDRRMC under state of calamity.

The sector will also have a contingency fund of P8.2 million.

The P51.43 million will cover the activities for preparedness, while P35.33 million will go to the purchase of equipment, operational expenses, early warning system, purchase of new ambulance, rapid emergency damage assessment system, community-based adaptation, local drills and simulation exercises, hazard, risk and vulnerability assessment, and relief and emergency medicines stockpiling.

Another portion will be for prevention and mitigation and recovery and rehabilitation which will be funded with P16.1 million, Mabilog said.
