Baktin's brother killed

THE brother of suspected carnap syndicate leader Ryan "Baktin" Yu was gunned down inside his car on Rimas Street in Barangay Wilfredo Aquino in Agdao District, Davao City Wednesday evening.

Superintendent Caezar Cabuhat, chief of the Sta. Ana police, identified the victim as Christopher Yap Yu, 37, a businessman and resident of Door 2, Yellow Town House Apartment on Rimas Street in Barangay Wilfredo Aquino.

"We could not yet conclude the motive of the killers, pero may apat na anggulo kaming tinitignan ngayon for investigation. Una dahil kapatid sya ni Baktin; two, due to business; three, baka napagkamalan sya na si Baktin; and fourth, alleged involvement in gambling," Cabuhat said.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, in an interview Thursday afternoon, refused to comment about the death of Baktin's brother.

"Wala jud ko idea until such time the police would tell me who killed who, sa karon di ko katubag ana (I don't have any idea). There must be an investigation on that," Duterte said.

Based on the initial investigation conducted by Sr. Insp. Leonardo Tarongoy, of the Sta. Ana police, the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. when the victim arrived at their apartment.

According to witnesses, just when the victim arrived in front of his apartment, two unidentified men on board a motorcycle without plate number also stopped beside the victim's car while another man on board a black scooter, served as lookout nearby.

Tarongoy said the victim was still inside his gray Toyota Prado vehicle with plate number GPD-629 when the gunmen shot him.

Quoting witnesses, Tarongoy said one of the suspects opened the driver's door while the other shot the victim and took his black sling bag.

The gunmen left the victim in his car and fled towards Cabaguio Avenue.

Yu died before reaching Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

The victim succumbed to three gunshot wounds on his head.

Meanwhile, members of the Scene of the Crime Operative (Soco) recovered five empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol.

Cabuhat, in an interview, said that the wife of the victim told them days before the incident that she noticed a motorcycle following them. She said this happened several nights when she and his husband were on their way home.

Cabuhat said they are now conducting investigation, collecting evidence and statements, and trying to get a video footage on the incident. He added that their station is also hoping for the witnesses to show up and help them in solving the crime.

"Sa ngayon, hindi pa namin makausap ng maayos yung kanyang asawa dahil rin sa nangyari. We are also asking for the witnesses to please help the family of the victim na makamit yung hustisya na hinihingi nila na mahuli yung may gawa nitong crime," Cabuhat said.

Reports said the gunmen were wearing black jackets with bonnets. The police are now trying to obtain the cartographic sketch of the gunmen.
