Mercado: It’s a Woman’s World

THROUGHOUT the ages it has always been contended that the female is the deadlier of the human species.

It had been true with Eve as with biblical characters like Delilah, Herodias and other organ cutters. So it was with Cleopatra and Helen of Troy of old, Evita Peron of Argentina, our own Imelda, and our very own Gloria.

Recent events gave proof to how deadly a woman can be. Yolanda, the super typhoon, had flattened Eastern Visayas in her fury. Nanay Baby is evidence, however, of how good she can be.

Not to be outdone in catastrophic outburst were two national celebrities – Sen. Miriam and actress Anne Curtis. Miriam took the Senate by storm as she pummeled colleague Tandang Enrile in whirlwind fashion. Miriam’s object of ire froze in devastated state, his face crumpled like an old paper bill thrown to street Badjaos and Aetas along GSO road.

Whether it was the gravity pull of the quarter moon or one mixed drinks too many, Anne Curtis, the ever sweet girl model in million-peso ads, went on a slapping rampage in a pub in Taguig. Most women go berserk because of unmet needs. Some lose their handle due to jealousy, lack of sex, and for any other tantrum.

Recently, actresses Kris Aquino and Sunshine Cruz made virtual mincemeat of their former husbands. Kris went on primetime TV to accuse James Yap of attempted sexual assault. Sunshine accused Cesar Montano of womanizing as she announced their separation.

Women will go hammer and tong against their male objects of hate, disregarding all sense of civility and fair play. This makes the female species a deadly one as premier poet Macky Pangan found to his dismay.

The lady Edna had reportedly labeled our rheumatic newsman as “matuang ma—.” This compelled him to take his bath twice daily, in the process exposing him to unnecessary chill that caused his pelvic arthritis to worsen thus temporarily demobilizing him in the plenitude of the Christmas season.

Preceding typhoon Yolanda in time and space is Mrs. Janet Napoles who has caused a national outrage over the pork barrel scam. While the stricken areas are now in the stage of recovery, the P10-billion pork barrel plunder probe has yet to retrieve a peso from the great robbery.

In Angeles, the police are eyeing robbery as the motive in the slaying of a barangay chairman. His relatives, though, are eyeing his former mistress and a love angle in his murder. Cherchez le femme, the French police are always reminded while investigating a crime. “Look for the woman.”

About 150 House representatives are supporting the move to grant a holiday furlough for detained former president, Rep. Gloria Arroyo.

Among these include Rep. Guiao and Rep. Rodriguez of Pampanga. By going against Palace policy, the two have nothing to lose by way of the pork barrel which had been scuttled, or political patronage by the Aquino administration. They won because of their Pineda connections. What prevents the Palace from granting a furlough to GMA is the fear of a similar request from Mrs Napoles who is similarly detained.

Will ERC Chair Zenaida Ducut resign from her post as advised by parties interested in her job? Ms. D has kept herself beyond gossip, scrutiny, and speculations for the past years by sticking to a low profile, quiet, and unobtrusive existence. Zeny ran for governor of Pampanga in a past election, but it was not meant to be.

Sister Marion P. Mangio, Pampanga’s foremost lay Catholic leader, gifted close media friends, with personalized Pontifical greetings and Papal prayers memorialized in a perpetual diploma-sized exquisite frame. Sis. Marion is renowned for bringing two great healing priests to the province- Fr. Corsie and Fr. Fernando. The two performed spectacular healing of impossible and terminal cases.

Woman

Oh, the shrewdness of their shrewdness

When they ‘re shrewd.

And the rudeness of their rudeness

When they’re rude;

But the shrewdness of their shrewdness

And the rudeness of their rudeness,

Are nothing to their goodness

When they’re good.
