Waterfront lights up Christmas tree

WATERFRONT Insular Hotel Davao welcomed the Yuletide season with the lighting of their Christmas Tree last November 28, 2013.

Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao general manager Rouel P. Guanzon said that this year, their Christmas tree is designed as homage to the indigenous materials of the south, like woven products.

This year, their tree is made out of "banig" and some innovative indigenous materials from Davao and other areas in Mindanao.

"The significance of the tree is how we uplift and show what it is truly being part of the south," Guanzon said.

The theme for this year's Christmas is "Swirls of Celebration," so evident in the Christmas tree that is adorned with a lot of swirling decorative items made out of insulators, which are made to look like ornaments. They also had childlike ornaments like popsicles and lollipops.

"These ornaments are for our beneficiary House of Hope, which is for cancer children," Guanzon said.

He said their guests and visitors can buy the ornaments for P250 and the proceeds will go to their beneficiary.

"This is an ongoing activity for the rest of the month of December and as long as supply lasts," Guanzon said.

The guests of the Christmas lighting were entertained by the Oca Dancers and the Davao All Girls Choir.

Guests were also served with classic Christmas Filipino dishes like "puto bongbong," spaghetti, and "bibingka." Guests also had a fill of nachos, crepes, and meatballs.

One can definitely feel that Christmas was in the air as the guests happily talked with each other while listening to soothing Christmas carols.

Aside from the Christmas lighting, they will have a Christmas Eve dinner and a New Year's countdown on December 31.
