Baguio Sports Council members named

BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan officially approved the composition of the City Sports Promotion and Development Council.

In the official document dated April 8 presented by the City Sports Office to Sun.Star Baguio, Domogan signed Administrative Order 034, series of 2015, for the list of CSPDC members.

The action was a follow-up of the City Ordinance 68, series of 2014, creating the CSPDC to serve as a sports advisory body for the city and to recommend the formulation or adoption of sports activities, plans, policies and programs.

In the AO, the CSPDC will be composed by at least 23 members chaired by the city mayor with the Head of Sports and Recreations Division (City Administrator’s Office), City Schools Superintendent (DepEd-Baguio City Division), MAPEH Supervisor (DepEd-Baguio), BCPO City Director, a representative from the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club as members.

Also part of the council are the Sanguniang Panlungsod chair on the Committee on Education, Culture and Historical Research, the chair on Committee on Tourism, Special Events, Parks and Playgrounds, the chair on Committee on Youth Welfare and Sports Development, The president of the Liga ng mg Barangay, the president of the Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan-Baguio City Chapter, a representative from Persons with Disabilities (PWD)/PHILSPADA, and a representative coming from non-governmental organizations/People’s organization.

Individuals will also include Tony Candelaria and Melvin Morte (representatives for combative sports), Saint Louis University Athletic Director Henry Fuentes (non-combative sports), Denzyll Santos (athlete’s organization), Eduardo Palaroan (umpires/referees organization), Alan Elegado (coordinator for private secondary schools), Ortez Gabol (coordinator for secondary public schools), Jennifer Dindin (coordinator for private elementary schools), Rosemarie Labonete (coordinator for public elementary schools), Nicodemus Gam-ad (school’s athletic manager), and John Tinoyan (representative for sports medicine).

Furthermore, the Sports and Recreations Division of the City Administrators Office and assigned personnel of the City Mayor will serve as the Secretariat of the CSPDC.

The CSPDC, authored by city councilor Peter Fianza, will conduct local sports summits or consult with sports associations/organizations and other public and private entities concerned to identify needed sports actions, activities or programs for the city; monitor or assist in the implementation of the sports promotion and development programs and activities; and recommend to the city council the adoption of immediate measures towards the realization of the needed sports program for the city.

According to Fianza, the creation of CSPDC aims to form a city based sports body pursuant to Executive Order 63 of then President Fidel Ramos creating the national, regional, provincial, city, municipal and barangay Physical Fitness and Sports Development Councils (PFSDCs).
