World’s best waltzes in

WORLD renowned dance couples from Europe, Asia and Australia will be competing in front of the Cebuanos for the first time as the Cebu World DanceSports Federation (WDSF) Open DanceSport Championship 2015 and 8th DanceSport sa Sugbu will take center stage today at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

All eyes will be on the Spanish couple Edgar Marcos Borjas and Alina Nowak, who are currently ranked number six in the world. They will be competing against Australians Brodie Barden and Lana Skrgic-de Fonseka, Chris Richard Boon and Brook Elise Matthew and Christopher Christensen and Megan Leese; Randell Lim Xiu Zhen and Alexis Jap Hsiao Tding of Malaysia, Arthur Kozun and Kamila Wierzynska Kozun of Poland and the team from South Korea, The Netherlands and Hong Kong.

Also set to compete is last year’s open Latin category champion pair Gerald Jamili and Cherry Parcon from Bacolod City, who are out to defend their title.

According to competition head Loloi Rendon Cebu’s favorite couple Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Caneda, who settled second to Jamili and Parcon, will be among the 210 couples who confirmed their participation.

“It’s going to be a stiff competition with all the country’s best couples competing this year as well as from other countries,” said Rendon.

The Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) dancesport competition will also be included in the event.

The competition is being organized by the DanceSport Team Cebu City (DTCC) which over the years has put Cebu in the map of DanceSports worldwide.

The competition will have foreign adjudicators such as Christian Bradbury (Hong Kong), Anantapat Siripatnapakul (Thailand), John Chong (Malaysia), Su Tu Ok (Korea), Ronald Hoorn (Netherlands), John Alan Winter (Denmark), Dobrina Parichkova (Bulgaria), Glen Tierney (Australia), Yoshiko Kido (Japan), and Hermien Rachmet (Indonesia).

The local adjudicators are Gloria Alcala, Edgardo Borromeo, Ronnie Steeve Vergara, Emmanuel Reyes, Michael Mendoza, Joel Ocsena, and Genice Marquez.

The competition is for-a-cause and will serve as the culmination activity of hundreds of mostly under privileged trainees who were given regular free DanceSport workshops and follow-through trainings in grassroots programs held in Cebu City and other cities and municipalities within the Province of Cebu particularly in Minglanilla, Sibonga, Carcar and Mandaue.
