Free train rides on Rizal Day

TO MARK the martyrdom of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the Light and Metro Rail Transit (LRT/MRT) will offer free rides to the public on Monday, December 30.

According to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, this is one of the activities lined up for this year's Rizal Day.

It said the free rides will be from 7 to 9 a.m., and from 5 to 7 p.m.

Also on Monday, there will be a reenactment of Rizal's walk from Fort Santiago to Luneta in Manila starting 5 a.m.

On Sunday, December 29, there will be a short prayer and floral offering at 6 a.m. at the Rizal Park also in Manila.

There will also be an unveiling of the Rizal Monument Marker in Rizal Park.

Meanwhile, the occasion will also be marked with the launching of the book "Calamba 1888: an adaptation of Severino Montano's 'Parting of Calamba.'" (JK/Sunnex)
