Ex-councilor’s brother killed

THE brother of a former Davao City councilor was gunned down at corner Lizada Street and Quezon Boulevard in Davao City on Saturday evening.

Superintendent Caezar Cabuhat, chief of Sta. Ana Police Station, identified the victim as Nasser Tagute Manding, 40, a jeepney barker and a resident of Lizada Street in Barangay 26–C.

The victim is the brother of former Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) representative to the City Council and barangay chair of 23–C Mini Forest Amilbangsa Manding, who until now is missing.

The controversial barangay chairman no longer reported for work at the barangay council office since March, after he was castigated by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for failing to solve the increase of illegal drugs in his area.

In February 2013, the barangay captain sprayed two red X marks on two doors of a boarding facility he owns in Barangay 26-C, ahead of a plan by then former Davao City Police Office chief Ronald dela Rosa to mark houses that are sheltering drug dealers.

Amilbangsa sat as barangay councils’ representative to the 14th and 15th City Council from 2004 to June 2010 when he was the president of the ABC.

Record from the Sta. Ana Police Station showed that Amilbangsa's brother was killed around 9:30 p.m. while soliciting passengers along Lizada Street, the 18-year-old driver, whose name is held, told the police.

According to the witness, a white van without plate number arrived and the gunman shot the victim once from the window. The victim was hit on the neck and died.

Manding's relatives brought the victim’s dead body to Marawi City on Sunday morning. The suspect is still at large.
