AN ESTIMATED P3.3 million worth of properties went up in smoke in a four-hour fire that razed five business establishments in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported Monday.
Fire Officer 4 (FO4) Eddie Muksan, fire marshal of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, said the fire broke out around 10 p.m. Sunday along Rizal Avenue in the said municipality.
Muksan said the firefighters controlled the blaze around 2 a.m. Monday.
Muksan said the business establishments that were razed were RD Pawnshop; Molave Food Haus; AJ Bakeshop; T. Jaymar Store; and Copier Center.
Initial investigation showed that the fire, the origin of which is still undetermined, started at one of the five business establishments and spread, according to Muksan.
Meanwhile, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) Coordinator Gerry Delos Santos said the local government is set to provide financial assistance to the fire victims to include the employees of the affected business establishments.
The MDRRMC also provided free breakfast to the affected employees as well as to the volunteers who assisted the firemen in preventing the fire from spreading to the nearby commercial buildings, Delos Santos said.
He advised the residents to be vigilant especially in during the New Year’s Eve revelry to prevent any untoward incidents like fire incident. (Bong Garcia)
