COMEDIAN Vice Ganda said he is not keen to follow the footsteps of Comedy King Dolphy or television host Vic Sotto. Instead, he wants to leave a mark in the show business that is entirely his own.
In a recent interview, Vice Ganda was asked on what advice he could give to aspiring artists who are dreaming of making it big in the entertainment industry.
"Sa mga gustong sumunod sa yapak ko, ang masasabi ko lang, wag nilang sundan ang yapak ko kasi hindi nila masusundan," he said.
With a successful comedy show ("Ganda Gabi Vice) and box office hit movies ("The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin," "Petrang Kabayo," and "Sisterakas") under his belt, Vice recalled that many used to tagged him as the next this or that. But he said that it never crossed his mind that he could copy what seasoned comedians contributed to the business.
Vice continued: "Lagi kasi nilang sinasabi you're the next Dolphy, the next Vic Sotto. I don't think so. No one will ever be the next Dolphy or Vic Sotto. I'm the only Vice Ganda."
He said that no one can copy the brilliance of Dolphy and Vic or even the talent of Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas.
"Hindi ko kayang gawin yung nagawa nila kaya gagawa ako ng sa sarili ko. Hindi ko masusundan ang yapak ni Vic Sotto, hindi ko masusundan ang yapak ni Dolphy, hindi ko masusundan ang yapak ni Ai-Ai delas Alas, dahil ang mga tinahak nila, sila lang ang nakagawa ng landas na 'yun."
Vice believes the success he's having now is destined for him. It took him years of practice, patience, determination and firm belief in God to be able to reap the fruits of his labor, he said.
And when a new comedian comes along, he said that it is another story.
"Ang napuntahan ko ay landas na sadyang nakalaan din para sa akin. Kung may landas silang patutunguhan, yun ay nakalaan na din sa kanila at antayin nila ang panahon kasi Diyos ang magdadala sa kanila doon."
As of Friday, Vice Ganda's entry for the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, although trailing behind Vic Sotto-starrer "My Little Bossings," had already surpassed the P200-million mark in ticket sales.
Even before the festival started, the comedian is confident the movie will make it big in the box-office.
"Mahal ako ng tao kaya malakas ang loob ko. Mahal ako ng tao, mahal ako ng Diyos kaya hindi rin ako natatakot. Sa pelikula ko, kampante ako," he ended. (Sunnex)
