Archers eye title retention bid

BAGUIO City marksmen are keen on retaining the overall crown when the 2014 edition of the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association sports meet gets underway next month.

After dominating the sport for the last five years, the Summer Capital bets are keen on keeping the title with Benguet and Mt. Province as the biggest threats.

Archery head coach John Hongitan said competition will be tougher this time with other provinces also gearing up for the annual regional meet.

Last year, the summer capital took the lead in both the secondary boy’s with an overall score of 155 and secondary girls’ with an overall 156 in the archery competition.

Jayson Mendoza and Abellardo Villamor, who lorded in the 30, 40, 50, full FITA, and Olympic rounds in 2013, will still be playing for the city this year.

Meanwhile in the distaff, Loren Chloe Balaoing will fill the void left by Kareel Hongitan, who already graduated from secondary school.

Benguet will eye to snatch this year’s overall crown in archery after falling short in 2013 landing second place in both the secondary boys and girls.

Mountain Province will also attempt to elevate their standings after landing a decent third last year, with the provinces Ifugao, Apayao, and Abra improving their chances.
