Cebu to host Prisaa regional meet in Feb.

CEBU private school athletes, who make up the the majority of the members of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Region 7 team, are aiming to extend their winning streak as Cebu hosts the Prisaa Regional Meet on Feb. 15 and 16.

Prisaa 7 officials have decided to transfer the venue to Cebu after the original host, Bohol, begged off following the devastation of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake last October.

“Bohol is still recovering from the earthquake. And during the last meeting last Thursday, Prisaa 7 president Fr. Vic Uy and the rest of the members agreed to award hosting rights to Cebu,” UC athletic director and Prisaa national deputy secretary general for the Visayas Bernard Ricablanca said.

However, Boholanos are not skipping the event as they will be sending a strong 200-man delegation.

The regional finals will determine the members of the team that will represent Region 7 in the national finals in Tagum City in April.

With Bohol sending a strong contingent, Ricablanca is hoping they will be able to select the best players so the region will continue its winning streak in the national finals.

The team is gunning for its fourth straight national title.

Prisaa 7 is scheduled to receive the first ever Dr. Emmanuel Angeles Hall of Fame Award for winning the national title for three straight years.

“We are aiming to continue our winning streak. We hope that the best of the best will come out during the Regional Meet to represent Central Visayas. We are eyeing to win four national overall titles in a row,” Ricablanca added

Prisaa 7 won the first national championship in Zamboanga City in 2011, then in 2012 here in Cebu and in Lingayen, Pangasinan last year.

There will be 18 events to be contested in the Prisaa Meet – baseball/softball, basketball, beach volleyball, football, sepak takraw, volleyball, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, dancesport, judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis and taekwondo.
