Man faces raps for bribery

CHARGES were filed before the City Prosecutor's Office against a man who tried to bribe a police officer at a checkpoint on Km. 14 in Panacan, Davao City Thursday.

Facing charges for violation of Article 212 (corruption of public officials) of the Revised Penal Code is Claudio Maano Colongan, a 47-year-old truck driver of Mati City, Davao Oriental.

Colongan was charged for trying to bribe operatives of the Sasa police.

Police investigation revealed that the incident took place around 4 a.m.

Sasa police, led by Senior Inspector Carlito Apilat, were conducting a checkpoint in the area when Police Officer 1 Cloudette Luis was tasked to flag down the truck with plate number PSZ449 loaded with lumber driven by Colongan for regular inspection.

But as the police officer asked for a permit to transport from Colongan, the latter reached for his pocket and handed out an undetermined amount of cash to Luis, who refused to take the money and arrested the respondent instead.

Colongan is currently detained at the Sasa Police Station while the truck and the lumber were also endorsed to the same police station.

Police are also conducting an investigation on the confiscated lumber after the respondent was not able to present a permit for its transport.

The case is being handled by Prosecutor Serafica Justiniani-Weis. (RPSA)
