Mobile app launched to help Sinulog tourists

ARE you a tourist currently in Cebu who is yet to experience the Sinulog Festival firsthand?

If you are and you have a smart phone, you might want to download the Sinulog Guide application developed by InnoPub Media and Smart Communications.

The app is available for Android phones through the Google Play Store and for Windows phones through the Windows Phone Store. Other devices like iPhones and iPads can access the mobile web version of the app at sinulog.myguide.ph.

It’s a comprehensive resource for tourists who plan to attend the festival.

Aside from containing the history and the story behind the Sinulog, the mobile application also has useful information like a list of places to stay in Cebu and things to do.

More offerings

While most hotels and pension houses are booked for the weekend, the Sinulog Guide app indicates establishments that do not accept reservations, but accept walk-in guests.

The app will also show where establishments like restaurants or consulates are through global positioning system or GPS by tapping the “check location” link.

The guide also has a list of the festival’s official activities and a directory of consulates, hospitals, transportation companies and emergency units.

It also features a complete list of Department of Tourism-accredited tour guides and tour operators.

Max Limpag, InnoPub Media co-founder, said the listings in the guide are active.

User can call a tour guide or make a restaurant reservation by tapping the phone numbers in the listing, Limpag said.

Limpag said he and his wife Marlen came up with the application with Smart as part of the Digital Tourism initiative to provide tourists with accurate and relevant information using mobile technology.

“The trend shows that tablets and smart phones are becoming our main computers. So what better way to send tourism and heritage information than through devices that people carry around with them wherever they go?” he said.
