Kasadya sa SRP

DAYS leading up to Sinulog weekend consist of crowded malls and unforgiving road traffic, but these hardly dampen the festive spirit. So many events are happening left and right and everyone—locals and tourists alike—is out and about to take part in the celebration.

An addition to the long list of activities to do this season is checking out the city’s temporary amusement park. While carnival caravans are a common sight in town fiestas all over the country, Cebu City also has its own “Kasadya sa SRP.” It was launched last Dec. 6 and will run until the Charter Day, Feb. 24.

Located in the South Road Properties’ (SRP) Entertainment Square, the park is home to game booths, food stalls, a mini bazaar and all sorts of carnival rides including ones that are suitable for small children. There are also performances and shows every night courtesy of the city’s barangays.

So, why not head there and try the variety of activities and rides it has to offer? It has classic carnival rides such as merry-go-rounds and Ferris wheel, and for the gutsy and the daring, there are horror booths, swing rides, roller coasters and the crowd drawing “Galactic Ride.”

Now on its third year, the park’s newest addition is the cable car, which gives an impressive view of the city lights and the bay walk, and of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the staple perya games such as the color game, dice throwing and ball toss.

The joy of being in an amusement park is undeniably universal, more so with Kasadya, where despite the simplicity of its rides and games, the smiles, the laughter and the exhilaration are hard to contain.

“Kasadya sa SRP” opens at 6 p.m. daily. Free shuttle rides are available with pickup points at the Senior Citizen’s Park and at the Mambaling access road.
