2,000 eyed in 1K@Amway Davao fun run set Feb. 16

SOME 2,000 participants are expected to join the 1K@Amway Davao Fun Run set on Feb. 16 in an out-and-back course from Tulip Drive, Quimpo Boulevard in Matina.

Manila-based marketing manager Dulce B. Ricafort bared this during the press launch at the Amway Davao branch office yesterday.

Ricafort said, "We have our newest category, the male and female 8K, in celebration of our power brand Nutrilite's 80th anniversary. This is in addition to the regular 1K and 5K categories that started last year.

She said that this year's event, which is being held on a Sunday, may attract more runners including families.

"We had the run on a Saturday last year and we received feedbacks that others were not able to join since they still have work that day. So this time, we really expect that we will draw more participants," Ricafort said.

She praised the Davao branch for registering the second biggest turnout of entries last year next to the Manila edition.

She added that registration fee for all categories is P200 inclusive of shirt, race bib and raffle stub. Raffle items include P10,000 worth of Amway products and iPod Nano. Samples of Amway products will also be available for all finishers on race day.

A portion of the registration fee will benefit Amway's One By One Campaign for Children in partnership with the Department of Education's adopt-a-school program. Last year's recipient, Lacson Elementary School will again receive reading books and other school supplies during awarding rites on Feb. 16.

Participants may also sign up for an Amway membership without paying any membership fee.

Ricafort said, "Our 1K@Amway simply means that you can start your own direct selling business for only P1,000. But when you register for the run, you don't have to pay extra for an Amway membership. You can sign up for free."

Gold, silver and bronze medals await top three finishers of each category. They will also receive gift packs.

The one-kilometer category was introduced since last year as organizers promote starting a healthy habit by running at least one kilometer.

Free running clinics are set every 6 p.m. on Jan. 25, Feb. 1 and Feb. 8 at Amway Davao branch where interested runners may also register.

Vantage Sports Promotions chief Kenneth Sai, for his part, said assembly time is at 5:30 a.m. for all categories but gun times are set at 5:50 a.m. for 8K, 6 a.m. for 5K and 6:10 a.m. for 1K.

"Turning points are Talomo Police Station for 8K, corner Quimpo Boulevard-McArthur Highway for 5K and Delongtes Restaurant for 1K," Sai said.

Regional product trainer Maria Theresa A. Tagaro, meanwhile, said the annual run is part of Amway's vision to "help people live better lives".
