Golf: Bill Clinton to show up in 2014 Humana Challenge

IT is 2014. What’s happening on the PGA Tour? The year started with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. It was held at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii last January 3-6, 2014. The winner of the tournament is Zach Johnson. In second place is Jordan Spieth. Tied for third place are Kevin Streelman and Webb Simpson. In fifth place is Jason Dufner. Tied for sixth place are Billy Horschel, Matt Kuchar, Adam Scott and Dustin Johnson. In tenth place is Ryan Moore.

FYI, although this is the first event of the year, the 2014 PGA Tour season started in October, 2013. I read on the internet that this tournament is the seventh event of the season. Why is this so? Honestly, I do not know. I can only guess. Just know that they have this new schedule called the new wraparound schedule. This reminds me of Rancho Palos Verdes. The start of their monthly tournaments is not in January too.

If you go through the list of tournaments scheduled for the 2014 PGA Tour season starting from October to present, there are more than 7 tournaments already. How do you find out which the official ones are? I found a solution. You only count the tournaments whose winners were awarded FedEx Cup points. And so, I checked the sequence again and the Hyundai Tournament of Champions is definitely the seventh!

This reminds me of a joke about the indians. (Indians, as in cowboys and indians.) The seventh indian son. And so, in an indian tribe far far away, the Chief was having a conversation with his seventh son who was very angry and frustrated at his father.

The Chief goes, “my seventh son, your eldest brother was named, Running Wolf because on the morning of when he was born, I saw a wolf running. Ferocious Eagle was named so because when I woke up that day he was born, I saw a ferocious eagle in the sky.”

The chief continued, “In the case of Jumping Horse, Dancing Lion, Flying Lizard, it’s the same. And your sister, I named her Dancing Snake because when she was born, I saw a dancing snake outside our teepee. Every year on your birthday, you get angry with me. Once and for all, I command you to stop complaining and accept your name, Humping Dog!” Hehe.

Ice breaker yon. Maaga pa. Good morning! Now, back to golf.

The second event of the year is the Sony Open in Hawaii which was held last January 9 – 12, 2014 at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. The champion is Jimmy Walker. In second place is Chris Kirk. In third place is Jerry Kelly. In fourth place is Harris English. In fifth place is Marc Leishman. In sixth place is Brian Stuard. In seventh place is Jeff Overton. And there are 12 players tied for 12th place including Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson, and Retief Goosen.

This week, it is the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation. Clinton, as in Past President Bill Clinton, Hillary & Chelsea. Past President Bill Clinton will be around for first part of the tournament, but then he has to fly back to Washington DC for work. I wish Hillary Clinton would show up. Go Hillary! FYI, the Humana Challenge was formerly called The Bob Hope Classic.

When is Tiger Woods playing again? He will be playing at the Farmer’s Insurance Open which is on January 23-26, 2014. After that, he will join the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on January 30-February 2.

That's it for now. Hopefully, no more rain today. Happy golfing!
