ComVal pushers face drug raps

MEMBERS of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) filed on Thursday charges before the Provincial Prosecution Office of Compostela Valley against a woman and five men, including their leader for illegal drug trade in the province.

Suspects were identified as Elmer Tagoon Nuñez, alias Mike, leader of the group, 33, of Purok 3 in Barangay San Miguel; his members, Jonathan Alferan Bonyogan, 27, of Purok 1 in Barangay Bangonon; and Alfie Jay Dimpas Cello, 29, a driver, of Barangay Poblacion.

Also arrested were Hensley Cuyos Beron; 29, a vendor, of Purok 7 in Barangay Maparat; Peter Bautista Aparicio, 42, a Civil Security Unit (CSU) member, of Purok 9 in Barangay Poblacion; and Honeylette Cardona Caderao, 24, of Poblacion, all in Compostela Valley.

Davao CIDG regional director Sr. Supt. Joel Pernito said the suspects were charged for violation of the Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 8294 or The Illegal Possession of Firearms, Ammunition or Explosives.

Records from the unit showed that the suspects were found in possession of caliber .45 Ithaca pistol with its serial number 396481 loaded with a magazine containing seven live ammunition, one Magnum Armscor caliber .38 revolver loaded with a magazine containing four live ammunition, another magazine of a caliber .45 pistol; and two holsters.

Operatives also recovered eight sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 10 grams with the worth of P50,000, assorted illegal drug paraphernalia, two Nokia brand phones, two Samsung phones; one Sony Ericsson, one Cherry Mobile phone, and P6,785 cash.

The suspects were arrested in a joint buy-bust operation of the CIDG Compostela Valley led by Chief Inspector Renante Lambojo and Compostela Valley Provincial Police Office's Intel Operatives at Purok 12 in Compostela, Compostela Valley on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Pernito added that the authorities cornered and arrested the six suspects after two of them handed suspected shabus to a CIDG agent. He also said the suspects are members of the "Mike Nuñez Group" led by Elmer Tagoon Nuñez.

"The group was identified as notorious illegal drug dealer operating in Compostela Valley and some areas in Davao del Norte. They were also monitored labas pasok ng Davao City. The group is also involved with other crimes in their area," Pernito said.

Pernito said the operation was conducted following the CIDG project Oplan Salikop, Oplan Paglalansag, and Big Bertha -- a campaign against loose firearms, illegal drugs, and organized crime groups.

The suspects were brought to CIDG 11 office in Davao City and Compostela Valley police office for documentation before they were detained at the CIDG jail facility in Compostela Valley.
