ANGELES CITY – The City Government will stage today (January 18, 2014) a massive parade of floats in commemoration of the 50th year of Angeles’ cityhood.
The float parade will be held at 5 p.m., in front of the Holy Rosary Parish Church.
In keeping with the golden anniversary’s theme “Limampulung Banwa, Gintung Mana”, the floats will illustrate the history of Angeles from its foundation right to the present times.
Seventeen floats, which were designed and conceptualized by artist Nikki Reyes and historian Dan Dizon, will parade the streets of Angeles.
Float designs will include the founding and clearing of barrio Culiat, the first celebration of Independence Day in the city, the Mount Pinatubo eruption and its aftermath, the Tigtigan Terakan king Dalan, and the new Angeles City.
According to Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, Angeleños are in for a treat with this massive float parade, as they will witness the city’s history unfold through the procession.
“As we celebrate Angeles’ golden anniversary, the float parade will remind us of our city’s illustrious past, our traditions and culture of the Angeleños,” Pamintuan said.
He also guarantees that the audience will definitely be moved by the float concepts as they will also tell “a story on how, we, as a people, turned damning tragedies into triumph, and how the city is seen as one of the best emerging cities of the country, today.”
The parade will be accompanied by the dancers of Sinukwan Performing Arts under the direction of Peter De Vera, UYAT Artists Group under Jayson Pabalan, together with various school-based performing arts groups.
Pamintuan also wanted to express his gratitude to the partners of the local government who presented themselves as sponsors for the production of the different floats.
“We started with 12 floats only, but, because several companies signified their interest to support our activity, we now have 17 floats, each telling a significant story about Angeles,” he said.
The sponsors include the Kuliat Foundation Inc., Don Pepe Henson Enterprises Inc., Angeles Electric Corporation, Marquee Mall, Holy Angel University, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Juan D. Nepomuceno Sons Inc., Angeles City Water District, Balibago Business Establishments Association, San Miguel Corporation, Clark Development Corporation, Clark International Airport Corporation, SM City Clark, and the Department of Tourism Region III.
The parade was also made possible through the support of the City Information Office, Angeles City Tourism Office, Angeles University Foundation, and the City College of Angeles.
A short program shall follow after the parade that will end with a grand fireworks display.
Parade Route and Traffic Management
According to the Angeles City Traffic Enforcement and Management Office (ACTETMO), the floats will assemble at Teresa Street (near Angeles Electric Corporation) and will go through Teresa Avenue, make a turn once they reach Sto. Rosario Street (corner of Jenra Mall), go past the Museo ning Angeles and Holy Angel University, turn to enter Lakandula Street, go through Miranda Street, turn at the corner of Pamintuan Mansion, and finally gather up at Sto. Entierro Street in front of the Holy Rosary Parish Church.
Portions of Sto. Rosario Street, Sto. Entierro and Nepomuceno street will be closed for the duration of the event.
A total of 19 city troopers will ensure the smooth flow of the short parade. (PR)
