Lopez stays clean in rapid after third

HENRY Roger Lopez of Panabo City stayed unbeaten after third round of the men's PD (physical disability) rapid event of the 7th Asean Para Games at Billiards and Snooker National Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar as of presstime yesterday.

Sixth-ranked Lopez, who clinched a standard team gold medal and individual silver Friday, tallied 2.5 points to share the second and third place with fellow Filipino Alexis Elinon.

Their teammate Sander Severino, who led the Philippines team standard gold feat, scored perfect three points to snatch the solo top spot of the Swiss System format chessfest.

The 11th-seeded Severino, who also copped the individual standard gold, shocked second-seeded Alfrets Dien of Indonesia in the third round following his victories over fifth-seeded Chuah Heng Meng of Malaysia and third-ranked Azhar Panjaitan of Indonesia.

Severino takes on compatriot Lopez in the fourth round. It can be recalled that Severino defeated Lopez in their standard match-up.

Lopez, meanwhile, halved the point with Elinon in their third round showdown. Lopez also hacked out wins against Sudirman of Indonesia and Thassanamethin Me Thavee of Thailand.

Team Philippines led the team event with eight points followed by Indonesia (6.0) and Malaysia (4.0) in second and third, respectively.
