ANGELES CITY -- History and pageantry marked Saturday's parade of floats in commemoration of the 50th year of Angeles’ cityhood in front of the Holy Rosary Parish Church here.
Some 17 floats wowed spectators who were given a glimpse of how Angeles City became one of the most progressive cities in Central Luzon.
Designed and conceptualized by artist Nikki Reyes and historian Dan Dizon and keeping with the theme “Limampulung Banwa, Gintung Mana”, the floats illustrated the history of Angeles. Students, politicians and spectators from all walks of life came to watch the event.
SM City Mall Manager Anna Datu said the event was a novelty in the sense that the younger generation of the people of the City is reminded of their proud heritage and colorful history.
“We are proud to be part of the history of this noble city,” Datu added.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan thanked all the people who made the event possible especially the sponsors who contributed to the success of every float.
The sponsors include the Kuliat Foundation Inc., Don Pepe Henson Enterprises Inc., Angeles Electric Corporation, Marquee Mall, Holy Angel University, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Juan D. Nepomuceno Sons Inc., Angeles City Water District, Balibago Business Establishments Association, San Miguel Corporation, Clark Development Corporation, Clark International Airport Corporation, SM City Clark, and the Department of Tourism Region III.
Pamintuan said the event was a testament to the city's proud heritage and a reminder to the current generation of how Angeles City has progressed and how it can further move through the challenges of the next 50 years.
The parade was also made possible through the support of the City Information Office, Angeles City Tourism Office, Angeles University Foundation and the City College of Angeles.
Each float was accompanied by dancers of Sinukwan Performing Arts under the direction of Peter De Vera, UYAT Artists Group under Jayson Pabalan, together with various school-based performing arts groups.
