Mayor: Town is first class

SAN SIMON -- Mayor Leonora Wong considers San Simon town as “already a first-class municipality” despite the classification needed from the Department of Finance (DOF).

“At present, with the local income we’re having, we are already considered as first-class municipality”, Wong told Sun.Star.

She said that the town is already considered a first-class municipality even as they are “still waiting for the classification from the DoF in terms of its income generated yearly.”

Wong also explained that Quezon Road is now the haven of industries and considered as San Simon’s Industrial Zone since a lot of investors are starting to build or establish their businesses, with the former farm lands now transformed into industrial buildings.

Wong noted of businesses along Quezon Road which include SKK Steel Corporation, Melters Steel Corporation, Wan Chiong Steel, Currimao Aluminum Corporation, Terra Cota Artworks, Formosa, Goodwill Metal Corporation, D’Meters, Bataan Cold Storage, Kyoto, Ingot Aluminum Casting, Arce Dairy Ice Cream, Mass V, Powerpoint Battery, Sta. Monica Poultry, Sun Flare, Sta. Monica Livestock Raisers Inc. and BMEG Poultry.

She added that the town is “dreaming to be declared as Pampanga’s first industrial zone” because of its location, being along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) from Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, Wong appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the old Apalit-Calumpit bridge.

According to Wong, the delay in the rehabilitation of the bridge hampers the economic activities in the Fourth District of Pampanga.

“I hope the completion date of the Calumpit-Apalit Bridge which is set on April 2014 can be met by the contractor of the DPWH,” said Wong. (Kristine Venet Q. Andal)
