Davraa-bound city athletes start quartering at DCNHS

SOME 400 athletes of Davao City will start their quartering-cum-training at the Davao City National High School today, January 22, until February 5 for the upcoming Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2014.

Department of Education-Physical Education and School Sports (Deped-Pess) supervisor Jimmy Cerojales, in an interview at his office on Tuesday, said the training will beef up the city's stint in the regional qualifying for the Palarong Pambansa.

A total of 175 athletes are seeing action in the elementary division and 234 in the secondary level.

He said classes at DCNHS will not be affected in the entire duration of the in-house training because the classrooms will only be used by the athletes and their coaches and chaperons after class hours.

"So far, so good! We hope to make it to the top again for this year's Davraa. We will work hard to defend our championship titles in different events and win the other games where we lost last year," he said.

DCNHS will host the training of the athletics, sepak takraw and softball teams, while tennis will be at Ecoland Phase 4 Tennis Club, football at Tionko field, badminton at Talomo Gym, baseball and archery at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina and swimming at Davao Merchant Marine Academy and Ladislawa and Green Heights subdivision.

Cerojales said the city's unpredictable weather condition will not affect their preparations.

The city's delegation will be billeted at the La Filipina National High School during the Davraa Meet.
