Fire hits two apartments in Calamba

AN ESTIMATED P100,000 worth of property went up in smoke when a fire hit two apartment units on Fourth St., Sun Valley Subdivision, V. Rama Ave., Barangay Calamba, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.

The Cebu City Fire Department received the call for assistance at 1 p.m. It was raised to first alarm, and was declared under control after nine minutes.

The fire reportedly started in the apartment occupied by Diana de Castro.

The flames quickly spread to the neighboring apartment occupied by lawyer Ferdinand Pepito.

The fire destroyed de Castro’s apartment, while Pepito’s unit was damaged.

Fire investigator Lowel Opolenticima said the fire may be traced to an electrical misuse, but further investigation is still being conducted on the accident.

He said the firefighters, who reportedly arrived at the scene on time, did not encounter problems in putting out the fire as the area is located near the main road.

All Cebu City fire trucks responded to the alarm.

No one was reported hurt or killed in the fire.
