Suicide note found under teacher’s pillow

A SUICIDE note was found under the pillow of a teacher who killed his principal and committed suicide inside the campus of Trinidad Elementary School in Barangay Don Salvador Benedicto, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental Monday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Nilo Genosa, case investigator of Pontevedra Police Station, on Tuesday said that on Monday afternoon, Salas’s houseboy “Jimson,” entered his late employer’s room.

Genosa said he found Harold Salas lesson’s plan under his pillow with a written note that read, “’Son, e bilin ko ni sa imo ang kwarta. Hambalon mo si nanay nga palangga ko gid kamo tanan. (‘Son, keep the money. Tell my mother I love all of you).”

Genosa said “Jimson” found the P5,000 cash inserted in the lesson plan. He turned over the money along with the note to Salas’ mother.

Salas, 37, was the suspect in the killing of his principal Jojit Gaudiel, 40.

Genosa said Salas was separated from his wife and he was living alone, with his houseboy as his companion.

Police investigation showed that when Gaudiel was about to leave his office late Monday morning, Salas pointed at him a .38 snub nosed revolver.

Gaudiel attempted to run but he fell giving the suspect the chance to shoot him.

The suspect also tried to shoot his fellow teacher who tried to help their principal but his gun failed to fire. Salas then went inside a classroom and shot himself.

Genosa said that Salas is separated from his wife and they have an ongoing annulment case.

He added that the incident is considered “case closed” and solved, with the death of the suspect.

Meanwhile, Genosa said Pontevedra Mayor Jose Ma. Alonso is facilitating the conduct of a stress debriefing for the pupils of the school where the incident happened.

He said several pupils witnessed the incident and classes at Trinidad Elementary School were suspended since Monday.
