Cop gunned down in Quezon City

A POLICEMAN who was allegedly involved in a carnapping activity was gunned down by his colleagues in Quezon City before dawn on Monday.

Chief Superintendent Richard Albano, Quezon City Police District director, identified the alleged car thief as Police Officer 1 Reniel Abogado, who was killed in a follow up operation in Payatas area.

Albano said the QCPD received a report of a motorcycle theft incident in Dhalia Street in Fairview, Quezon City around 3 a.m. Policemen on-duty spotted the missing Yamaha Mio being driven by Abogado.

The police fired warning shots but he refused to stop.

The operatives then chased Abogado until he was shot down along Payatas Road near Violago Subdivision around 4:15 a.m.

The Criminal Investigation and Detention Unit (CIDU) said the suspect was also involved in kidnapping and carnapping incidents in the city.

Recovered from his possession was a .45 pistol. (Sunnex)
