Owwa allots P44.86M for cash-for-work

THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has allocated P44.866 million for the cash-for-work assistance program to families of overseas foreign workers (OFW) in typhoon-affected areas in Cebu.

OWWA 7 Director Wilfredo Misterio attended the Cebu Provincial Board (PB) session yesterday to explain the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Cebu Province, through Gov. Hilario Davide III, and OWWA, which she will represent.

The MOA signing will be held anytime this week.

The MOA states that the program will provide financial assistance in the form of wages for beneficiaries at the rate of P327 per day for their temporary employment for at least 15 days and at most 30 days.

Their work will be based on the program of works and certificate of worker beneficiaries to be submitted by the local government units (LGUs).

Provincial Board presiding officer Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said it is incumbent upon the LGUs to determine how many beneficiaries are there in their areas. She said the program covers 16 LGUs in northern Cebu which were most affected by typhoon Yolanda last Nov 8.

Magpale also learned those who will qualify are OFWs who have updated OWWA membership as of Nov. 8 and has valid work contract on that date.
