THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured the completion and suspension of road works at Burnham Park in time for the month-long Panagbenga Festival, which opened on Saturday, February 1.
DPWH-Baguio District Engineer Ireneo Gallato said the agency tasked its contractors to halt all activities by the start of the festival.
The projects expected to be completed are the P15-million road reblocking projects at Lake Drive, Juan Luna Drive and Jose Abad Santos Drive.
The DPWH official also assured the curing period for the concreted road around Burnham Park has been completed.
Contractors were also asked to remove road repair equipment in the area, the DPWH official said.
However, Gallato emphasized finishing touches for the road rehabilitation, including landscaping of sidewalks, will have to be placed on hold until the end of the festival.
Road repairs, which are incomplete, will have to be suspended to avoid traffic congestion expected during the festival and inconvenience to more than a million visitors expected to arrive this month.
Projects to be postponed according to the DPWH official are the painting of road markers and the paving of portions of Marcos Highway and other road reblocking projects in the Central Business District.
Asphalt overlay projects, through instapave in main thoroughfares to be used during the Panagbenga Festival Grand Float and Street parades, will also be completed by the district engineering office.
