8 fall in Danao anti-drug bust

ANTI-illegal drugs operatives of the Cebu Provincial Police Office arrested a suspected drug pusher, his live-in partner and six other men who were allegedly caught sniffing shabu in a drug den in Barangay Looc, Danao City yesterday morning.

Operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Branch and Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group also seized 12 packs of suspected shabu in different sizes from the suspects.

The packs of suspected shabu weighed 26 grams and are reportedly worth P306,800 per Dangerous Drugs Board's estimates.

Senior Insp. Armando Labora, PIB deputy chief, said that their main target in the buy-bust is the alleged drug pusher Malvin Sabas Mangas Jr.

Mangas, 41, is allegedly supported by his live-in partner Hennie Tano Barrega, 42.

The suspect is reportedly a level two drug pusher who can dispose of more than 200 grams of shabu per week, Labora said.

Mangas allegedly operates in Danao City and supplies the neighboring towns of Carmen and Compostela.

Mangas and his partner denied they owned the drugs seized by the police.

Labora said Mangas was released from Danao City Jail last July. The suspect said a court acquitted him of the drug case he was facing that time.

Aside from Mangas and Barrega, the police also collared Reynaldo Hermosella Montebon, Darwin Enriquez Galo, Marwin Parahinog Gomez, Raul Gonzales Siscon, Nazareno Peralta Lao and Jonas Garoben Mangas who were allegedly caught in the act of sniffing shabu inside Mangas’ house.

Montebon denied he was having a drug session.

Mangas was placed under surveillance in the past two weeks after Supt. Rodolfo Albotra Jr., PIB chief, received information on the suspect's involvement in illegal drug trade.

The suspects will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, before the Office of Danao City Prosecutor.
