UB hosts first International tourism convention

AFTER the success of the 4th National League of Tourism Students Convention (NLTSC) in 2012 and 5th NLTSC in 2013, University of Baguio brought the tourism industry of the Summer Capital to a greater height as it hosted the 1st International Tourism and Hospitality Students Convention (ITHSC) February 14 at CAP Convention Center, Camp John Hay.

The ITHSC was geared towards addressing the industry's dynamic changes in hospitality and tourism convention with a theme "Innovation, Challenges and Opportunities: A Focus on Asean 2015."

The event took off gathering 42 different schools from all over the Philippines with the largest delegation awarded to St. Mary's College of Tagum (Davao) on the top spot.

Meanwhile, the 3rd National League of Tourism Skills Olympics was also launched February 15 at UB Gymnasium with different events open for all interested tourism students nationwide with events like Parade of Philippine Festivals, Virtual Tour Guiding (Domestic and International), Tour Package Competition, Flight Attendant Showmanship, Quiz Bee, Chorale Competition and Mr. and Ms. LTSP 2014.

ITHSC and the 3rd NLTSO were both organized by the League of Tourism Students of the Philippines (LTSP) - UB Chapter in cooperation with Tourism Educators and Movers of the Phils.

Jenelyn Magpatoc, convener of the 1st ITHSC, said the convention gathered a thousand participants composed of students, tourism professionals, and hospitality and tourism staff from different schools of the country and well-known tourism industry practitioners.

Lyceum of the Philippines- Manila was declared as over-all champion while Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas ranked 2nd and SLU- Baguio as 3rd. (Rachelle Anne Nicer Montoya/Trixie Alvarez)
