Barangay tourism council pushed

THE Barangay Tourism Council (BTC) of the 128 barangays in the city underwent development training conducted by the City Administrator's Office and Special Services Division of the City Mayor's Office at the Baguio Convention Center recently.

In the Administrative Order No. 18 of Mayor Mauricio Domogan, the barangays were required to form their respective tourism councils, which are mandated to adopt programs geared toward tourism promotion within the domain of the Revised Baguio City Tourism Code.

The development training aims to further enhance the skills of the barangay officials in effectively dealing with visitors/tourists so that they can gain confidence and effectively deal with queries and concerns and also further expand the knowledge of barangay officials as well as increase their awareness in the development of tourism in the barangay well as with other barangays. This is to provide venue where different strategies may be explored to increase tourism in our city without sacrificing the upkeep of the environment.

Highlighting said training includes the legal mandate of the BTC, importance of supply data inventory and mandatory accreditation of primary tourism enterprises and inventory of supply data per barangay.

The barangay officials realized the important provisions of the Baguio Tourism Code.

City Administrator Carlos Canilao hopes with the training, the barangays would develop pro-tourism strategies and products based on sound market information to help boost the industry for the benefit of their villages. Thus, strengthening the barangays in promoting the city as well as sustaining its wealth.

In his inspirational message, Secretary to the Mayor, Rafael Tallocoy stressed the importance of knowing the products of the barangays and be proud of it.

“Sustain, develop and advertise your products for others to see,” said Tallocoy. (Jho Arranz)
