Police arrest 6 illegal loggers

THE police have arrested six people in an anti-illegal logging campaign in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Friday.

Arrested were Danilo Gutab, 40; Mark Ganob, 22; Irish Ganob, 38; Roberto Tutungan, 42; Edward Maanyag, 35; and Ariel Montipon, 26.

The suspects were arrested around 11 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay New Argao, La Libertad, Zamboanga del Norte.

The Zamboanga del Norte Police Office said the suspects were nabbed by combined policemen and Department of Environment and Natural Resources personnel following a report from a resident about illegal cutting of Narra trees near the river of Newe Argao village.

Confiscated from the suspects’ possession were flitches of Narra tree and one unit unregistered chainsaw defaced serial number.

Appropriate charges are set to be filed against the suspects, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
