Binay eyeing MVP as partner in 2016 polls

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- After resigning as chairman of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban), Vice-President Jejomar Binay is now eyeing Kapampangan business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan as his running mate in the coming 2016 elections.

Binay said that aside from Pangilinan, he is also considering Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto or Senator Jinggoy Estrada as partners for the 2016 elections.

Binay disclosed that he will form a new political party in preparation for his presidential plan for the 2016 polls. Estrada on the other hand offered Binay his position as president of the Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).

Binay also gave assurance that he will not be remiss on his duties and responsibilities as vice president and as housing czar of the Aquino government.

He added, he will continue on his functions and duties as housing czar of President Benigno Aquino III.

The vice president added that Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, former Cebu governor and now Cebu City Representative Gwen Garcia, together with the uncle of President Aquino, Philippine Olympic Committee chairman Jose Cojuangco, Jr., will join him in his political party.

Meanwhile, Malacanang said that it is the right of Binay to form any political party in preparation for the 2016 elections.

The Palace was mum on the reported plan of Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas to run in the 2016 polls with presidential sister Kris Aquino.

Aside from Kris, Roxas is also considering Santos-Recto, Senator Francis Escudero or Senator Grace Poe as running mate.

Roxas remained silent on his political plans for 2016, saying that he is focused on his job as DILG chief.
