Troops pursue rebels who abducted soldier in Agusan Sur

GOVERNMENT troops have continued to pursue suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) who were responsible for the abduction of a soldier in Agusan del Sur last September 21.

The missing soldier, identified as Cpl. Adriano Bingil, detailed at the 26th Infantry Battalion (IB) under the 4th Infantry Division (ID), was abducted along Km. 16 in Barangay Policarpio, San Luis town in Agusan del Sur.

Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), in an earlier statement issued to the media, said the soldier was riding a motorcycle driven by a village councilman Reneboy Galino when they were flagged down by NPA rebels.

Captain Albertp Caber, public information officer of Eastmincom, said Wednesday there is no update yet on the latest kidnapping incident.

"Wala pa rin tayong update pero patuloy yung pursuit operations ng ating tropa sa mga kidnappers," Caber told Sun.Star Davao in a phone interview on Wednesday morning.

Caber said the pursuit operation was conducted immediately after the incident was reported.

"Ang ating mga operation naman ay pinapangunhan ng Army in coordination with the local government unit (LGU) and local police," Caber said.

But he said that they are continuously monitoring the movements of the suspected members of the NPA rebels in the area.

"Sa tingin ko nasa Caraga area lang yung mga NPA pati na ang sundalo," he added.

Army's initial report revealed that more or less 30 NPA rebels, under the command of alias Cai of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee, were responsible for this incident.

Cpl. Bingil along with other Army soldiers were just conducting an outreach mission in the area to facilitate the entry of government services.
