Alaminos all set for Hundred Islands Festival 2014

ALAMINOS CITY -- The City Government is now in its final preparations for the staging of this year's Hundred Islands Festival. Also scheduled on the first day is the launching of the First Western Pangasinan Tourism Travel and Agri-Trade Expo, which will run until March 23.

Other activities lined up for the event are Children's Day to feature the Far East Acrobat; Alaminos City Para sa Lahat (for all) Night; Miss Hundred Islands 2014 Pageant and Coronation; Longganisa Festival; Street Dancing Competition; Shooting Competition; and Youth, Senior Citizens and Balikbayan Night.

Prior the festival, an ultra marathon dubbed as 100 Islands Ultra International Marathon will be held on March 15-26, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Participants of the ultra marathon will run from the city proper and pass through the national highways of neighboring towns, namely, Bani, Anda, and Bolinao, and back to Alaminos City.

Celeste assured that each activity is meaningful as he invited his constituents and other people from all over the world to join them in celebrating the bounty of the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP).

HINP was the first national park proclaimed in the country by Former President Manuel Quezon.

It is made up of 124 islands -- scattered along Lingayen Gulf and covering an area of 18.44 square kilometers -- but only three of which have been developed namely Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children’s Island.

The City Government, in partnership with the Provincial Government, have been further developing the islands, by taking down illegal structures and building gazebos, among other structures to attract more tourists to visit the HINP. (PNA)
