SECURITY alert in Northern Mindanao has been heightened following an attack at a police station in Matanao town in Davao del Sur by New People’s Army fighters, where fatalities reached to 12 and wounded nine others at dawn Monday.

Of the 12 killed, seven were soldiers, three were policemen, and two were rebels.

Superintendent Michael Pareja, Police Regional Office spokesperson, said checkpoints in all entrances and exits to prevent lawless persons or groups from carrying assaults in the region.

For the last two years, the NPAs have been raiding police and military stations in the region. The latest happened in Kibawe town early this year where a police died.

Police Inspector Joanne Galvez, spokesperson of the PNP’s provincial office in Bukidnon, confirmed that all police stations have already been alerted especially in the boundaries of Davao region.

Galvez assured that they are ready for possible attacks by the rebels to ensure safety of the public.

She called on public to be calm but cautious of any suspicious people in their neighborhood.

Captain Christian Uy, spokesperson of the 4th Infantry Division in Camp Evangelista, said soldiers and special forces are readied for possible assault in its area of jurisdiction including Caraga region.
