FIVE people, including three children, were killed while one was wounded when an alleged mentally deranged person attacked them in a remote village in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Thursday.
The suspect, who was identified as Renie Arnatis, was also killed when his supposed to be sixth victim managed to defend himself.
Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sitio Sanitalan in the village of Labangon, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
Huesca said the place of the incident is near the boundary of Macasing village, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte.
Huesca identified the other five fatalities as Merlita Emoc, 27; and three of her children namely Junrey, seven; Merlyn, four; and Nak-Nak, two; and spouses Samuel Anligis, 57, and Presciosa, 59.
Investigation showed the suspect, Arnatis, armed with a bolo came from his residence and went to the residence of the Emocs and killed four members of the household without any apparent reason, Huesca said.
He said the suspect then went to another house and hacked to death the Angilis couple.
He said that Lito (Angilis), although wounded, managed to defend himself and hacked to death the suspect.
Lito was admitted at a hospital in Ozamis City, Huesca said.
